Our catechumen Alika Piper was introduced to Bishop Larry Silva at the Rite of Election at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa on Feb. 25 by her sponsors, husband Robert Piper and parishioner Marlene Sagapolutele. Others supporting Alika were her children, Noa and Maya, and RCIA instructors Marty McNamara and Jack Tui, secretary Helen Tui and parish administrator, Father Khanh Pham Nguyen. Her parish family prays for her as she continues her journey of faith for initiation into our Catholic Family (Community) on April 7 at our Easter Vigil Mass. … Our Marian Shrine Project is on its way to completion and its March 31 re-dedication by Bishop Silva. Some parishioners have donated their time, talent, manpower, monetary gifts, expertise and help in many ways for this special project initiated and labored by our graphic artist Mario Orbito. We have much to thank our Mother Mary for without her, we wouldn’t have Jesus. Thanks be to God. … For Lent, the different ministries have been leading the Stations of the Cross with Deacon Ron Choo or Father Khanh. The 5 p.m. choir under the coordination of Johnelle Silva has been leading the music. (Reported by Elizabeth Lum)

We have received a thank you from Vietnam, very heartfelt. $1,000 from our Advent “don’t put on weight” door collection went to sick and retired priests in Saigon, not an overweight one in the crowd. Mahalo!!! More calabash collections scheduled this Lent for the same causes: Nairobi girls’ home, Saigon sick and retired priests, Baghdad Christians, seminary library in Vigan, Philippines (Father George Busto’s diocese) and village ministry in Philippines. Peggy Leong, a parishioner, will be our new parish administrator beginning Feb. 26. Peggy and her husband Scott have been parishioners for many years. They have three children: Raquel is a lector, Scott is a hospitality minister, and Raquel and Rachel are altar servers. Peggy has a BA in business administration and a doctorate in law. She most recently has been a deputy attorney general for the State of Hawaii Housing Division. Peggy sees her new job here at the parish as a call from God to share her talent with the church in general and our parish in particular. I know you will give Peggy your support and cooperation as she begins her work with us. She has experience in and understanding of our parish and already knows many of our parishioners. Let us pray that God will guide Peggy and all of us as we move into the future. (From the parish bulletin)
