On the eve of the 90th anniversary of the final apparition of Our Lady of Fatima, Bishop Larry Silva led a Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament, rosary recitation and evening prayer at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace at 7 p.m. on Oct. 12. Readings, singing, and short reflections by Bishop Silva were included in the rosary recitation.

The next day, a group of laity led a well-attended rosary crusade at Thomas Square in Honolulu to mark the same Fatima event. The public prayer, organized with permission of the City and County of Honolulu, lasted from 2:30 p.m. until about 4 p.m. and included the display of a statue of Our Lady of Fatima, Divine Mercy prayer, and the rosary.

The event was organized by Renee Morimoto and Josephine Yu of America Needs Fatima and was part of a first ever national Public Square Rosary Crusade.

Also on Oct. 13, at noon, an estimated 600-plus people gathered outside 19 churches and parks on Oahu to pray the Rosary. Because of the enthusiastic turnout, organizers are considering making this a yearly event.
