Oahu young adults will gather for the fifth annual Oahu Young Adult Congress on Oct. 19 and 20 at St. Stephen Diocesan Center in Kaneohe. The event aims to bring young Christians together for fellowship and spiritual enrichment.
The theme of this year’s congress is “Fire Us Up and Send Us Out.” Sponsored by the Diocesan Youth and Young Adult Board, the gathering is aimed at Catholics ages 18 to 35-plus.
Young Adult Congresses are also held on Molokai and the Big Island.
The weekend kicks off with a concert on Friday from 7 to 10 p.m. that will include performances by local Christian band 7 Simple Pieces, and the Kailua-based band Busekrus.
Saturday’s events last from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and will include sessions by local speakers on topics including how to live a healthy spiritual life and being young witnesses to Christ through service. There will also be opportunities for faith-sharing and question-and-answer time.
Karl Sandbo, this year’s congress chairman, said he is most looking forward to the Mass that will close the gathering.
“To join in celebrating the Eucharist with young adults from across the island allows me to more fully experience and appreciate being Catholic and trying to live a Christ-centered life,” he said.
The Friday night concert is free. A free-will donation of $15 covers the cost of three meals on Saturday. Those wanting to stay overnight at St. Stephen Diocesan Center are asked to register ahead of time and pay an additional $25.
