Hawaii-born Sister Francine Costello has been elected to the five-member leadership
team of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. The selection took place at their recent 27th congregational chapter in St. Paul, Minn.
The chapter, or general community meeting, is held every six years to focus on the order’s mission and to choose leaders. The new team also includes Sister Laura Bufano, Sister Susan Hames, Sister Catherine McNamee, and Sister Elizabeth Ney.
After her profession of vows, Sister Francine first taught at St. Anthony School in Kalihi. She then spent 23 years serving in the missions in Peru. Upon her return to Hawaii, she served on the liturgy committee at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa’s Parish, spent 12 years as secretary at St. Patrick School in Kaimuki and is now at Holy Trinity School in Kuliouou.
She will move to St. Louis, Mo., in January to assume her new leadership duties.
