RELIGIOUS ANNIVERSARY: Sister Marcelia Maglinte
 
Sister Marcelia Maglinte, Isle-born BVM, 50 years

Hawaii-born educator Sister Marcelia Maglinte, a Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is celebrating 50 years in the religious life this summer.

Sister Marcelia, born in Kealia, Kauai, and a member of St. Catherine Parish, joined the Sisters of Charity, BVM, also known as the BVM sisters, based in Dubuque, Iowa, in 1957.

She returned to Hawaii in 1983 to teach at Kapaa Elementary, Kapaa High and Intermediate School, Kilauea Elementary, Maui Waena Intermediate and Lihikai Elementary. She also served as coordinator of religious education at St. Catherine Parish.

She has also taught in Montana, California and Illinois.

She is among 17 BVM golden jubilarians who will celebrate their anniversaries on July 28 with a 4 p.m. liturgy in the Clarke College Chapel in Dubuque, followed by a reception.
