Pearl City parish hosting mini-retreat on end of life issues

Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City will host a mini-retreat on end of life issues conducted by visiting Capuchin Franciscan Father Dan Mindling, July 20, at 6:30 p.m.

Entitled “Now and at the Hour of Our Death,” the presentation will address end of life decision making according to Catholic teachings followed by questions and answers, Mass at 8 p.m., and refreshments at 9. The evening is sponsored by the Perpetual Adorers of the Blessed Sacrament.

Father Mindling is a professor and dean of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Md. He also serves as an ethics consultant to the National Conference with Catholic Bishops Pro-Life Committee in Washington, D.C.

He joined the Capuchins in 1973 and was ordained a priest in 1980. He earned a doctorate in moral theology in 1987 and has served on hospital ethics committees for 20 years.

Blessed Sacrament church hosting overnight vigil

Blessed Sacrament Parish in Pauoa Valley is hosting the Annual Overnight Vigil to God Our Abba Father under the auspices of the United Hearts of Jesus and Mary, beginning with a 9 p.m. Mass on Saturday, Aug. 11 and ending with a 6 a.m. Benediction and 7 a.m. Mass on Sunday, Aug. 12. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will follow the opening Mass. The vigil includes four complete meditations of the Mysteries of the Rosary, chaplet and Rosary of Our Father and the balance of the 1,000 Pater Nosters. Participants are encouraged to attend Sunday Mass at their own parishes or stay at Blessed Sacrament Church. For more information call 545-3546.

Youth and Young Adult Board schedules meetings

The Diocesan Youth and Young Adult Board has scheduled its executive board meeting for Aug. 18, 9 a.m. to noon, at St. Michael Church in Waialua, and its general board meeting, 6 p.m., Aug. 31 to 2 p.m., Sept. 1, at St. Stephen Diocesan Center.
