Damien speaking champ is 8th out of 454
Damien Memorial School junior Christopher Ballesteros finished eighth out of 454 contestants in the National Forensic League’s impromptu speaking championships which ended June 21 in Wichita, Kan.
Ballesteros has won the past two Hawaii state titles in impromptu speaking.
He was also half of Damien’s public forum debate team which finished in the top 20 out of 230 teams. His team member was Brack Duvall, also a junior. It may be the best finish ever for a Hawaii debate team in any category.
The last Hawaii student to take a National Forensic League title was Damien’s Chad Ho who won in U.S. extemporaneous speaking in 1990. Ho is now vice president for business and legal affairs at MySpace.com in Beverly Hills, Calif.
