Annunciation Church in Waimea and Ascension Mission in Puako on the Big Island will host an all-day bazaar with lots of food, shopping, entertainment, fun and fellowship on the grounds of Annunciation Parish, 9 a.m.-3 p.m., on Saturday, Aug. 4. Everyone is invited.
The bazaar will have a country store, a plant booth, rummage sale, games and dunking booth, many craft booths, food booths, shaved ice, ice cream and drinks booth, a silent auction and lots of live music by local performers.
This year’s event is spearheaded by Toni Palacat and her dedicated team who have volunteered many hours to assure a successful and enjoyable day.
Proceeds from the day will help pay for much needed repairs at Ascension Mission, and maintenance at both churches. A donation will also be given to St. Joseph School in Hilo, the only Catholic school on the Big Island, and to a mission or organization in dire need of assistance.
Big Island to host 58th annual Filipino Catholic Club convention
The Hawaii Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs will host the 58th annual Diocesan Congress of Filipino Catholic Clubs (DCFCC) Convention, Nov. 9-11, at the King Kamehameha Kona Beach Hotel. The DCFCC consists of councils of Oahu, Kauai, Maui, and the Big Island.
“Love and Serve the Lord,” was overwhelmingly approved by the hosting council as this year’s convention theme. The theme reflects the values and teachings of the church which every Catholic is expected to uphold as a noble mission transformed into evangelistic action.
The convention will coincide with the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival. It is hoped that this event will provide a cultural experience that will enrich the spiritual goals of the convention. Among the pillars of the coffee industry are the hardworking Filipino coffee farmers who mostly belong to the Catholic parishes in Kona.
