Governor Linda Lingle has appointed Dr. Mark Brasher, a Chaminade University of Honolulu adjunct faculty member, to the State Ethics Commission. The appointment was conferred on June 27 at Washington Place. His term expires in 2010.
“The State Ethics Commission provides citizen oversight of the ethical conduct of our elected and appointed officials,” explained Dr. Brasher in a news release.
Dr. Brasher has taught various philosophy courses including ethics at Chaminade since 1997 in the university’s evening program, on each of its 10 Oahu satellite locations on Oahu, and online.
“Teaching ethics at Chaminade over the past 10 years has forced me to come down from the ‘ivory tower’ conceptual considerations of moral theory,” Dr. Brasher said, to present ethics in a way that will “enrich my students’ awareness of moral issues and increase their fluency in moral decision-making.”
The five-member State Ethics Commission was established in 1968 to promote and enforce high standards of ethical conduct in state government. Its members are appointed by the governor from nominees selected by the judicial council of the Hawaii Supreme Court.
