On June 26, as soon as the 6 p.m. bells from the tower of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace’s stopped chiming, another set of bells began to ring inside followed by angelic singing.
The Golden Gate Boys Choir and Bellringers (GGBC) performed a free concert of sacred, classical and musical numbers before about 75 people that Tuesday evening. The Hayward, Calif., group was in Hawaii after a 10-day performance tour of New Zealand.
The group, made up of 29 boys between the ages of 9 and 19, is directed by Steven Meyer. On their four-day Hawaii stopover, the GGBC also performed at St. John Vianney Parish in Kailua, had an exchange with the Youth Opera Chorus, and did some sightseeing.
The group has a Hawaii connection; Bishop Larry Silva’s nephew, Tim Silva, 21, is a former member, and was one of nine chaperones accompanying the boys on their summer trip.
