230 strong march in Corpus Christi feast procession

The Corpus Christi eucharistic procession crosses Vineyard Boulevard after passing Foster Botanical Gardens. Close to 230 people walked a little over a mile from the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa to the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace on June 10, the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ, or Corpus Christi.

Bishop Larry Silva led a eucharistic procession of 230 faithful from the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa in Kalihi-Palama to the downtown Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace on June 10 to celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi.

The observance began with a 10:30 a.m. Mass at the co-cathedral followed by the one and a quarter mile march along the streets of Honolulu. The bishop took turns with other clergymen carrying the heavy golden monstrance displaying the large consecrated host under a six-polled canopy.

At various points along the route, Bishop Silva used a megaphone to lead the crowd in prayer and song.

Priests, deacons and acolytes accompanied the canopy at the head of the line. Knights of Columbus in capes and plumed hats added pomp and ceremony to the following stretch of people, many of whom carried umbrellas to shield against the noon-day sun.

The procession ended at the cathedral at about 1 p.m. and was followed by a Benediction and adoration.
