Hospice employee recognized
St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii has selected Anita Pangan, an office clerk at St. Francis Hospice-The Sister Maureen Keleher Center in Nuuanu, as its first recipient of the Employee of the Quarter award.
Pangan, a Kuliouou Valley resident, started at St. Francis in 1988 as a certified nurse aide. She has also worked as a home health aide and nurse technician. Devoted to St. Francis Hospice, Pangan says working at hospice has been her calling.
“There is no greater reward than having a dying person, try with all the strength they have left to squeeze your hand to say ‘thank you.’ That’s when I know I‘ve made someone’s last days very peaceful,” she said.
“She is the heart of hospice,” said outgoing business services manager Debby Theis, who nominated Pangan for the award.
