Support the FCC scholarship fundraiser Minimize
Support the FCC scholarship fundraiser

By Lillian Lagapa Ulgaran | Special to the Herald

Oahu Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs (OCFCC) is continuing its annual Charity Queen Fundraising until June. This yearly project, which began in March, raises money to support Filipino Catholic Club students in Catholic high schools and colleges.

For sale this year at all participating FCC parishes on Oahu are frozen manapua, Portuguese sausage, pizza, tote cookies, cinnamon bread and banana nut loaf. Each item costs $5.50.

Hawaii’s Filipino Catholic Clubs have been raising money for scholarships since the organization started 57 years ago. To enhance this campaign, each FCC unit selects a maiden or matron to compete for the Oahu council’s charity queen of the year.

It used to just pick maidens, but four years ago, the council approved the selection of “maidens” (those 14 to 24 years old) on “even” years, and “matrons” (women 25 to 70 years old) on “odd” years.

Nena Racan of St. Elizabeth FCC in 2005 was the first reigning matron.
