Good Friday appeal supports sacred sites in the Holy Land Minimize
Good Friday appeal supports sacred sites in the Holy Land

Hawaii parishes will have a collection on Good Friday, April 6, for the support of the holy places in the Holy Land, and in particular for the pastoral, charitable, educational and social works the church supports for the welfare of Christians living there and of the local communities.

The collection, requested by the pope, is being promoted in Hawaii by the Hawaii Delegation of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

The equestrian order, a Roman Catholic organization of men and women that traces its origins to the time of the first Crusades, works with the Franciscan Fathers who have custody of numerous historical sites in the Holy Land, shrines such as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre where it is believed Jesus was resurrected from his tomb.

The Hawaii delegation is also sponsoring a Rosary Project to encourage saying the rosary and provide jobs to the Christian families in Bethlehem who make them. Parishes may purchase the olive wood rosaries to be sold or distributed at parish functions.

For more information about the collection or the rosary project, call Isaac Sagario at 398-9685 or Thomas Pangilinan at 284-1319.
