1957: Opens day care center for mentally retarded children.
1959: Adds five-story Mother Marianne Wing for out-patient and emergency services, laboratory, X-ray, pharmacy, and pediatrics.
1962: Creates hospital-based home care program.
1965: Introduces renal dialysis service. Establishes affiliation with University of Hawaii Medical School.
1969: Performs state’s first kidney transplant.

2001: Initiates home dialysis telemedicine program.
2005: Announces intention to sell St. Francis Medical Center and St. Francis Medical Center-West to Cardiovascular Hospitals of America (CHA) and a group of local physicians.
2007: On Jan. 14, ownership of the two medical centers is transferred to Hawaii Medical Center LLC. The hospitals are renamed Hawaii Medical Center East and Hawaii Medical Center West.
