Grant to Catholic Charities will help new Big Isle immigrants

Catholic Charities Hawaii announced on Jan. 31 that its General Immigration Services program received a $10,000 grant from the Robert C. and Helen F. Nichols Fund through the West Hawaii Fund Advisory Board of the Hawaii Community Foundation. The money will help newly arrived economically disadvantaged immigrants on the Big Island’s west side integrate into their new community.

Catholic Charities has helped immigrants to the Big Island since 1987 through counseling, technical document assistance, family reunification, community orientation and acculturation. The Immigration Services program also provides referrals to English classes, emergency financial and food assistance, housing, health care, interpretation, translation, legal and employment services.

For more information about Catholic Charities immigration or employment programs on the Big Island, call (808) 961-7031.
