Five receive 2006 Mother Marianne Award

St. Francis Healthcare System of Hawaii recognized five outstanding employees of St. Francis Medical Center and St. Francis Medical Center-West with the 2006 Mother Marianne Awards on Jan. 23, Blessed Mother Marianne’s official church feastday. Because ownership of the medical centers changed hands this month, they were the last group of St. Francis Medical Center recipients to receive the honor.

The honorees were selected for exemplifying St. Francis’ values of charity, peacemaking, simplicity and joy.

The recipients are Patrick Kelly, Karen Norwood, Felicia Marquez-Wong Sharon Sato and Dr. Jorge Camara.

  • Patrick Kelly, RN, a crisis nurse in the critical care unit at St. Francis Medical Center (now Hawaii Medical Center), he began his career at St. Francis in 1990 as a telephone operator while earning his bachelor’s degree in nursing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
  • Karen Norwood, the central supply services/OR manager, is a 26-year employee who oversaw duties at both St. Francis Medical Center-West and St. Francis Medical Center.
  • Felicia Marquez-Wong has served as bereavement coordinator for St. Francis Hospice for the past 12 years and was honored for bringing wide recognition to St. Francis Hospice and its bereavement program.
  • Sharon Sato, finance administrative coordinator, is a 33-year employee who joined St. Francis Hospital in 1973 in the pathology department before transferring to the finance department at St. Francis Medical Center-West when it opened in 1990.
  • Ophthalmologist Jorge Camara M.D. received the physician award. A member of the St. Francis medical staff for 19 years, he has served on numerous medical staff committees and previously as Chief of Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat.
