Here is a list of activities for Catholic Schools Week for some of Hawaii’s Catholic Schools

Maui


KAHULUI

Christ the King School

Jan. 28

  • 10 a.m. — Liturgy celebration at Christ the King Church

Jan. 29

  • 7:45 a.m. — Sign waving
  • 8 a.m. — Prayer service
  • 9:30 a.m. — Community service (preschool through 6th grade) at Roselani Place, Kalama Heights, Hale Makua

Jan. 30

  • 9 a.m. — Walking on Sacred Ground with Maui Catholic Schools at St. Anthony Jr.-Sr. High and St. Anthony Preschool campus

Jan. 31

  • 8:30 a.m. — Spelling Bee at St. Anthony Church Center
  • 10 a.m. — International day of celebration with cultural activities, food and fun

Feb. 1

  • 8 a.m. — Annual Conference for Catholic Educators on Maui

Feb. 2

  • 5 p.m.-10 p.m. — Keiki Karnival

WAILUKU

St. Anthony Grade School

Jan. 28: Our parish

  • Mass at St. Anthony Church Center at 9 a.m.

Jan. 29: Our community

  • Students will collect supplies for the Christ the King Parish food pantry

Jan. 30: Our Catholic schools

  • Walk on sacred grounds: Maui Catholic school students will walk to raise money for charity. Walk-a-thon is 10-11 a.m., bag lunch at 11 a.m.

Jan. 31: Our volunteers

  • Spelling Bee: 9 a.m. at the church center for grades 5-6

St. Anthony Thrift Shop volunteers are invited to eat lunch with our students.

Feb. 1: Our teachers

  • Mass at St. Anthony Church for faculty and staff of all Maui’s Catholic schools.
  • No school for students.

Feb. 3: Our students

  • Relay Races: Blue vs. Gold Teams (Blue is grades one, three, five and six B; gold is kindergarten and grades two, four and six A)


Kauai


KAPAA

St. Catherine School

  • St. Catherine will celebrate by entertaining the patients at Mahelona Hospital and providing them with tray favors. Students will also be collecting pet food for the humane society. The favorite activity of the week will be a day at Lydgate Park with fun and games for everyone.

HONOLULU

Cathedral Catholic Academy

Jan. 29: Cathedral Catholic Academy

  • Prayer Service
  • School assembly: Each class will share their good news with the student body.

Jan. 30: Parents

  • Teachers will select a story to be read by parents to the students. An activity will be done with parent and students related to the story. Afterward, students will share lunch or a snack with their parents.

Jan. 31: Students

  • T-shirts and jeans day!
  • Warm fuzzy story and activity with students and teacher in each classroom.
  • A special treat for students after lunch.
  • No homework!

Feb. 1: Faculty and staff

  • A faculty and staff bulletin board will showcase each member of the faculty and staff with pictures and a statement of how they see the good news of education shared at the school.
  • Read-A-Thon: From 8:30-10:30 a.m., students will read, be read to by teachers and community leaders. Donations collected earlier will go to the Hawaii Literacy Foundation to help defray costs for the damaged literacy van.

Feb. 2: Catholic Schools

  • No school. Faculty and staff will attend the Conference of Catholic Educators at the Neal Blaisdell Center.

PEARL CITY

Our Lady of Good Counsel School and Preschool

Jan. 26-28

  • Student work displayed at Pearlridge Shopping Center Uptown. Hula performance on Jan. 27 at 10 a.m.

Jan. 29

  • 8:15 — School Mass
  • 10:45 — St. Francis School Band and Chorus to perform
  • 1 — Bible trivia contest, teachers vs. students
  • 6-8 p.m. — Book fair
  • 6:30-7:30 p.m. — Open house (public invited)

Jan. 30

  • 9 — Slime the principal activity for school-wide read-a-thon
  • 12:30 — Sports contest, teachers vs. students

Jan. 31

8:30 — Spirit day performances by preschool, grade 8 and faculty

  • 11 — Service projects tied to Catholic social justice issues

EWA BEACH

Our Lady of Perpetual Help

Jan. 28: We are a parish school

  • Opening liturgy at 11 a.m. in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Students are asked to come in their complete school uniform with their families.

Jan. 29: We are holistic learners!

  • 7:50 a.m. — Morning assembly
  • 8:15 a.m. — Creative art projects: Students will break up in grade clusters for a team competition and craft an object out of the materials provided.
  • 10:30 a.m. — Wacky Tacky Tourist Day: Students, faculty and staff dress in wacky costumes and join in a parade of costumes. Awards will be given to the wackiest-dressed “tourists.”
  • 12:30 p.m. — Basketball game: challenge of the dolphins, boys vs. girls

Jan. 30: We are responsive producers!

  • Field day
  • 7:50 — Morning assembly
  • 8:30 — Opening prayer
  • 8:40 — Games I
  • 10 — Snack and break
  • 10:30 — Games II

Jan. 31: We are active Catholics!

  • Family day
  • 8:15 a.m. — Mass followed by Rosary
  • 9:30 a.m. — Family stories: This day is devoted to celebrating one’s family and one’s roots. Students will spend time with family members and share family stories.
  • 10:15 a.m. — Recess
  • 10:45 a.m. — Game show: A special game experience will involve students and their family members.
  • Noon — Family picnic: Families will enjoy a picnic on our school campus. Families may sign out their children after the picnic.

Feb. 1: We are capable communicators!

  • 7:50 a.m. — Morning Assembly
  • 8:15 a.m. — Students will share one of their talents with the class. Students will compose “letters of gratitude” to community members: armed forces, politicians, and servants of the community.
  • 9:45-11 a.m. — Damien concert: The young men of Damien Memorial School will share their God-given musical talents. The band will perform with instrument demonstrations and student participation.
  • Noon — Lunch and recess
  • 12:45 — Variety talent show: Students will manifest their talents as individuals, group, a whole class, or with their family.

Feb. 2 — We are outstandingly love, peace and hope!

  • No school — Faculty and staff will be at the Diocesan Annual Conference for Catholic Educators

KAIMUKI

Sacred Hearts Academy

  • Grade specific activities are planned throughout the school, focusing on sharing gifts and talents with the community. The theme for each particular day will be spotlighted at the 7:40 a.m. flag raising.
  • The lower school will participate in the week-long celebration in its own unique way. First through third graders will show their appreciation for their Catholic school education by learning more about Jesus, sharing with new friends, and participating in energetic dances. Lower school festivities will culminate with a gathering celebrating each student’s unique gifts. A movie depicting a loving community will show how those individual gifts can be shared for the good of all.
  • Fourth through sixth graders will “sock-it-to-sin,” wearing fun socks to school. Students will show their Academy spirit by wearing school attire including the school colors of gold and white. On one special day, students will share their school experience with a friend, bringing their favorite stuffed animal to school.
  • High school students will celebrate by “giving back” — recognizing alumnae who have returned to teach at the Academy and giving forward” — recognizing student and teacher heroes. High school classes will also give checks to Youth Outreach and the Kakaako Shelter to demonstrate service to the community. Under the theme of hands around the world, students will show how they can positively impact other parts of the world through the HEIFER International project and service projects in Vietnam.

KAILUA

St. Anthony School

Jan. 26: Warrior Pride Day

  • Students show their school spirit by wearing their Warrior-pride T-shirt.
  • Families and friends are invited to join the students for a hula, cheerleading, and band recital in Father Henry Hall at noon.

Jan. 29: Kick off our good news!

  • Families and friends join school for Mass at 8 a.m. Students wear red shirts.

Jan. 30: Celebrate the colors of Hawaii

  • Students wear the color assigned to their class. Students will pose for a school-wide rainbow picture. Snacks will be eaten while sharing a book during recess.

Jan. 31: Celebrate aloha

  • Families and friends are invited to a talent show in Father Henry Hall at 1 p.m. Students will dress in appropriate aloha wear.

Feb. 1: Celebrate our diversity

  • Families and friends share their cultures by providing the students with samples of ethnic foods. Students may dress in ethnic wear. They will sample the food while listening to music from all around the world at 9:30 a.m. in the courtyard.

Feb. 2: ACCE

  • No school. Teachers attend Annual Conference for Catholic Educators.

KALIHI

St. Anthony School

Jan. 28

  • 8:30-9:30 a.m.: Family Mass c/o the student council
  • 9:30-11:30 a.m.: Open house, breakfast sale c/o grades 5 and 6

Jan. 29 (Funny Feet Day)

  • 8 a.m.: JPO drill exhibition
  • 9:30 a.m.: Factual feud
  • 12:30 p.m.: Spelling bee

Jan. 28: Father Chaminade Service Day

  • 8:30 a.m. Mass with Chaminade University campus ministry
  • Grades 4,5, 6 and 12 will build the middle school play area on campus
  • Middle School - relay fundraiser for Catholic Charities
  • Freshman Class - Volunteer at Humane Society
  • Sophomore class - Ala Moana Beach clean-up
  • Junior class, USS Missouri clean-up

KALIHI

St. John the Baptist

Jan. 29: Grandparents Day/World Culture Day

  • Grandparents are invited to school Mass at 9 am. A special prayer service will held for them.
  • Grandparents are also invited to lunch with the students to share stories, facts and food of their native countries.

Jan. 30: Career Day

  • Students dress in the costume of their future career. Guest speakers present speeches regarding their career experiences. Father Jack Ryan to talk about religious vocations.

Jan. 30: Green-n-Gold Day/Student Teacher Day

  • Show your school pride by dressing up our school colors.
  • Eighth grade students will walk a mile in their teachers’ shoes and teach class for a day.

Feb. 1: Pajama Day/Talent Show

  • Come to school as comfortably as if you were in bed by dressing up in a pair of soft and snuggly pajamas.
  • In the afternoon, be ready to show off your unique talent or skill in the school’s annual talent show. Parents are also invited to participate in the show.

Feb. 2: ACCE

  • No school, faculty and staff attend Annual Conference of Catholic Educators.

WAIALAE-KAHALA

Star of the Sea School

Jan. 26 (Catholic Identification)

  • 8:00 a.m.: Mass and honors assembly following

Jan. 29 (Spirit Day)

  • 8 a.m.: Assembly in the school cafeteria, service project kickoff. Students wear school colors. Spirit parade follows assembly.

Jan. 30 (Celebrate Reading)

  • Guest readers visit campus.

Jan. 31 (Community Service Projects)

  • Canned Food Drive: Each student is encouraged to bring a least two cans for the St. Augustine’s food pantry and Waikiki Community Center, through Feb. 5.
  • Change Makes a Difference: Each student receives a star card with 25 spaces for coins of any denomination, which is returned Jan. 31. Proceeds go to Catholic Charities.
  • Valentines for Veterans: Students will once again participate, in their classes, in this program for veterans.

Feb. 1 (Family lunch)

  • 11-11:45 a.m.: Primary grades 1-3, pizza lunch
  • 12-12:45 p.m.: Upper school grades 4-8, pizza lunch
  • 1 p.m.: Music program in the church.

Feb. 2

  • Annual Conference of Catholic Educators, Blaisdell Arena, students are excused.
