Easter cantata at Our Lady of Sorrows Church
The Our Lady of Sorrows Church Combined Choir will present an Easter Cantata called, “The Passion of His Love,” arranged by Tom Fettke and Randy Vader, on Saturday, May 7, at 7:30 p.m. in Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Wahiawa. Prayerful gathering for vocations at Star of the Sea
The Serra Club of Honolulu and Star of the Sea Church invite everyone interested in increasing vocations to join them for a prayerful gathering for vocations on the Feast of Damien of Molokai, May 10, 4-6:30 p.m., at Star of the Sea Church in Waialae-Kahala. The event will begin with Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament at 4 p.m., followed by Vespers, Benediction, special prayers for vocations, rosary and Mass presided over by Father Gary Secor. The event concludes with light refreshments. Young adults and youth groups are invited to attend. Vivian Aiona guest speaker at Catholic Women’s Guild meeting
The Catholic Women’s Guild will conduct its annual meeting May 21, beginning with Mass at 11 a.m., followed by short business meeting and lunch in the Laulima Room at the Hale Koa Hotel in Waikiki. The guest speaker is Vivian Welsh Aiona, the wife of Lt. Gov. Duke Aiona. Her topic will continue the guild’s series on “women’s spirituality.” The cost is $17 for lunch, plus $2 to park in the Hale Koa Parking Garage. Young Ladies Institute plans convention, cruise, official visits
The Young Ladies Institute’s 102nd Grand Convention, titled “Come to God’s Garden,” will be held June 26-29, at the Doubletree Hotel in Modesto, Calif. The Hawaii delegates from Ana Malia #208 are Emily Souza and Evelyn Cabra1. The alternate delegates from Kailua #213 are Rosie Smith and Marge Gomes.
The Young Ladies Institute is sponsoring a 13-day cruise of the Greek Isles aboard the Grand Princess in September, with a stop at a historic Christian site, ending in Rome followed by a flight to Venice. For more information, call Pat Mueller at 1-925-447-0716.
YLI Grand President Patricia Fontana will arrive in Hawaii on May 20 for an official visit with Ana Malia #208 on May 23 and with Kailua #213 on May 25. She will visit diocesan administrator Father Thomas Gross on May 26 and will be guest of honor at Kailua’s 50th anniversary Mass and buffet luncheon on May 28.
Vocal Arts Ensemble American Songbook concert at Chaminade
The Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble under the direction of Timothy Carney will present three performances of the concert “An American Songbook: The Way You Look Tonight,” May 14 at 7:30 p.m. and May 15 at 4 p.m. in the Mystical Rose Oratory on the Chaminade University campus, and June 5 at 4 p.m. in Paliku Theatre at Windward Community College in Kaneohe.
The concert, the ensemble’s fifth annual celebration of American popular songs from the 1920s to the 1960s, will feature guest soprano Cheryl Bartlett. Featured composers are Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Harold Arlen, Paul Simon, and more. The Ensemble will be accompanied by pianist Eric Schank and a jazz trio.
General admission is $17.50, military and senior tickets are $12.50, preferred seating is $35, and student admission is $5. To order tickets, call 551-4808.
Vincentian Father from India to conduct healing services here
Vincentian Father Augustine Mundackatt, the director of the Paritrana Retreat Centre in Adichiara, Kerala, India, will preside at three Masses and healing prayer services and an all-day conference on Oahu in June. A Mass and healing prayer with the Blessed Sacrament will be offered at 7-9 p.m., June 20 at St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani, June 21 at St. Patrick Church in Kaimuki, and June 22 at St. Anthony Church in Kailua.
He will conduct a conference on June 25, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Academy Auditorium ending with a Mass and Healing Prayer with the Blessed Sacrament. Bring a brown bag lunch. No registration is necessary. A free will offering will be accepted.
Father Mundackatt is also the vice provincial superior of the St. Joseph Province of the Vincentian Congregation, the director of the World Evangelization Mission of the St. Joseph Province and the executive director of the Popular Mission Retreats and Renewal Programs.
He also leads the Marine Drive Bible Convention every year in Kochi, Kerala, in India, which is attended by more than 200,000 people daily and is reported to be the site of many healings, miracles and conversions.
