Fifty members of the Japan Religious Committee for World Federation paid Bishop Larry Silva a courtesy call in the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace on Nov. 5.

Twenty-two members of the interfaith delegation of Buddhist, Shinto, Protestant and Catholic ministers and faithful came from Japan to join local members for the 65th anniversary of the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor in a gesture of peace and friendship.

This year marks the 25th anniverary of the group’s participation in Pearl Harbor commemorations.

After meeting with the bishop, the committee conducted a two-hour symposium to reflect on their activities. They unanimously agreed to continue their annual participation.

The Catholic participants from Japan were Father Chitoshi Noshita, Nobuko and Takeko Fukuma, Morihiko Fukuma, Yoji Fukuma and Tadanori Nishimoto.

Hawaii Marianist Father Francis Nakagawa assisted as host and translator. Other local attending Catholics were Chie Fujii, Seiko Nakamura and Eiko Wada.
