Father Grimaldi will return to full-time chancery work Minimize
Father Grimaldi will return to full-time chancery work

Father Joseph A. Grimaldi will leave his position as pastor of Sacred Heart Parish, Punahou, and St. Pius X Parish in Manoa on Jan. 1 to serve full time at the diocesan chancery.

Bishop Larry Silva made the announcement in the official notices in this issue of the Hawaii Catholic Herald.

Father Grimaldi, 66, will continue his position as judicial vicar, overseeing the operation of the diocesan tribunal, and will head the Missionary Cooperative Program, a new initiative serving as a “clearing house” for mainland and foreign dioceses and archdioceses coming to the Diocese of Honolulu with appeals for various causes.

Father Grimaldi has been pastor of Sacred Heart and St. Pius since Feb. 1. Prior to that, Bishop Silva had appointed him vicar general for six months with Father Thomas Gross.

Replacing Father Grimaldi is Father Gordian Carvalho, pastor of St. John Apostle and Evangelist Church in Mililani. No replacement has yet been named for Father Carvalho.

Sacred Heart Parish and St. Pius X parishes have shared a pastor for about five years.
