Bishop to take Egypt extension

Bishop Larry Silva, who is leading a pilgrimage to the Holy Land next year, will also take the extended journey to Egypt, according to Seawind Tours and Travel, the company organizing the trip.

The trip, called “A Journey of Faith to the Holy Land with Bishop Larry Silva,” runs from May 22 to June 4. The trip to Cairo, Egypt, June 2-6, is an optional three-day extension offered by Seawind.

The price of the tour with the Cairo extension has been reduced slightly since it was first announced two weeks ago, from $7,515 to $7,214 per person, based on double occupancy.

Diocesan vicar general Father Marc Alexander will lead a 13-night Mediterranean cruise next year, Sept. 27-Oct 10, through six ports of call, including a visit to the Holy Land.

The tour, being offered by Seawind Tours and Travel, begins and ends in Rome. Among its destinations are Ephesus, Alexandria, Cairo, Mykonos, Naples, Capri, Jerusalem and Athens. Jerusalem and Alexandria are overnight stops.

Seawind Tours is the company that arranged the pilgrimage to Father Damien’s canonization last October, and is organizing a trip to the Holy Land next May with Bishop Larry Silva.

Father Alexander’s cruise also offers before the launch two nights in Rome, which includes guided tours of the Vatican Museum, the Coliseum, the Forum, the Trevi Fountain and the Piazza Navona.

The excursion will sail on Celebrity Cruises’ newest ship, the 1,146-foot long Celebrity Silhouette, which joins the fleet next July.

Father Alexander will offer three lectures while the boat is at sea:

  • The Holy in the Holy Lands: Historical and Spiritual Perspectives
  • From Egypt to Jerusalem: Faith on the Move
  • Inspired by the Past: Where Do We Go from Here?

He will also celebrate Mass daily for the travelers.

The cost is $4,895, plus $289 in port fees, per person based on double occupancy and includes four land excursions. Roundtrip air transportation from Hawaii to Rome is being offered for an additional $1,650 per person.
