A radio preacher from Boston and a school chaplain from Waikane will be featured speakers at the 1020 Hawaii Regional Charismatic Conference, Aug. 13-15, at Catholic Charities Hawaii’s Clarence T.C. Ching Campus in Honolulu’s Makiki district.
Father Tom DiLorenzo, a Massachusetts parish administrator, popular conference presenter, and host of the weekly radio show, “In Season and Out of Season,” will be the keynoter.
Father Marvin Bearis, the Oahu-born Capuchin Franciscan chaplain of Damien Memorial School in Honolulu who lives at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish in Waikane, will also speak.
The theme of the 32nd annual conference — “Got Spirit? Go!” — blends an ad for milk (“Got milk?”) with a quote from Mark (“Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature …”)
The three-day event will include praise and worship sessions, four general presentations, Mass fellowship time, a healing service and a Life in the Spirit Seminar for those wanting to learn more about Baptism in the Holy Spirit and the spiritual gifts that accompany it. Tom Fragas is presenting the seminar.
Most of the activity will take place in the community hall of the new Catholic Charities campus which is located at 1822 Keeaumoku Street at the corner of Nehoa Street.
Pre-registration costs $25 per person, Registration at the conference is $35, $10 for youth and free for clergy and religious. No registration needed to attend Sunday afternoon Mass. Meals will not be served, but participants may bring their own food or visit restaurants close by.
