Kauai’s priests, deacons and religious, plus a few guest seminarians, pose for a photo June 25 at the Kauai Beach Resort where they were honored by the Kauai Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs.

Kauai FCCs end Year for Priests honoring clergy, religious

The Kauai Council of Filipino Catholic Clubs honored Kauai’s priests, deacons and religious on June 25 at the Kauai Beach Resort to conclude the worldwide Year for Priests which ended last month.

The priests honored were La Salette Fathers Rene Bisaillon, Augustine Uthuppu, Danilo Galang, Ron Gagne and Edison Pamintuan; and diocesan priests Fathers Edwin Fontanilla, Bernard Maloney, Peter Miti, William Shannon and Ramelo Somera.

The deacons recognized were William Farias and his wife Arlene, Thomas Contrades and his wife Jacquelyn, Manuel Pascua and James Bostick.

The Filipino Catholic Clubs also honored Sister of St. Francis Florence Remata for her role as spiritual director of the Immaculate Conception, Lihue, Filipino Catholic Club, Sacred Hearts Sister Joseph Mary Cefra, seminarians Makana Aiona and EJ Resinto of the Diocese of Honolulu and Jeremy Santos of the Diocese of Sacramento.

Kauai Council spiritual director Father Pamintuan gave the opening invocation which was followed by a meditation hula by 2010 Miss Kauai Filipina Jayna Shaffer. Council president Asun Valvieja presented the certificates of appreciation, assisted by Charity Queen Abigail Iloreta.

Santos performed original renditions of Gospel “rap” songs. Allan Villaflor was the master of ceremonies. Sister Florence ended the program with a blessing and prayer for priests.
