Two Sisters of Notre Dame with Hawaii ties celebrate anniversaries

Two Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur who once served in Hawaii will be among 11 jubilarians to be honored in California at a Mass of Thanksgiving on Aug. 13.

Sister Lucy Holguin (formerly Sister Lucy Julie), who taught at Holy Family School in Honolulu from 1974 to 1976 and was principal of Star of the Sea Elementary School in Waialae-Kahala from 1976 to 1984, will celebrate her 60th year in religious life.

A native of Santa Barbara, Calif., Sister Lucy entered religious life in 1946. She served for 35 years as an elementary educator and administrator in California, Washington State and Hawaii. She returned to Santa Barbara where she served in parish ministry and now provides volunteer service.

Sister Dolores Steiner (formerly Sister Joseph) taught at Star of the Sea from 1965 to 1968 and at Holy Family from 1969 to 1971. She also is celebrating 60 years as a religious.

Sister Dolores served as an elementary school educator in California, Washington State and Hawaii. She also worked for a decade in catechetical and pastoral ministry in the Diocese of Fairbanks, Alaska, and later in health care and pastoral ministries in southern California. She now lives in Santa Barbara and is involved in volunteer services.
