Hawaii man makes first profession as a Marianist

A Hawaii man was one of four Marianist Brothers making their first profession of vows May 20 at Queen of Apostles Chapel in Dayton, Ohio.

Brother Dennis Bautista, 33, who has completed his two-year novitiate in Dayton, will renew these vows of poverty, chastity and obedience every year for the next three years before making perpetual vows, or vows for life.

The other Marianist brothers are Armando AZeses, Alfredo Chávez and Andrew Kosmowski.

Brother Bautista has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Chaminade University of Honolulu and a master’s degree in communications and a doctorate in interdisciplinary intercultural communication from Washington State University.

As an aspirant, he worked in the Office of Communications at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio. During his second year of novitiate, he served in communications and vocations development for the Marianist Provincial office in St. Louis.

Brother Bautista will join the faculty of St. Mary’s University and teach in the English-Communication Arts Department.
