Maryknoll creating scholarship to honor Sister Dolores Rosso Minimize
Maryknoll creating scholarship to honor Sister Dolores Rosso

Maryknoll School is establishing a scholarship to honor Maryknoll Sister Dolores Rosso who has served the school since 1949 for her entire professional career in education.

Sister Dolores is leaving the Islands and retiring to Maryknoll, N.Y., at the end of April. The school is inviting alumni and others to contribute to the fund. Donations will be recognized at an April 10 farewell dinner for Sister Dolores.

Sister Dolores started at Maryknoll in 1949 as a high school teacher. She taught for 22 years, was director of alumni affairs for 11 years and served on the Alumni Association Council for 12 years. She received an honorary alumni award in 1979 and the first alumni emeritus award in 2009.

The school plans to award a $1,000 to $2,000 scholarship every year from 50 percent of the interest from the scholarship endowment. For the initial years the scholarship will come from individual contributions. The amount of the scholarship would grow as the endowment grows.

The scholarship recipient will be a student in the Maryknoll sophomore class who will be attending his or her junior year at Maryknoll.

The recipient, selected by a committee reporting to the principal, must meet the following requirements:

n   Shows a need for financial assistance for continued enrollment at Maryknoll.

n   Demonstrates scholarly aptitude and critical thinking skills required for higher education.

n   Demonstrates concern and selfless service toward others, exemplifying Christian principles.

For information, call Maryknoll’s Development Office at 952-7310.
