The Capuchin Franciscan priest known as the “preacher to the papal household" will speak in Hawaii on three days this month. Father Raniero Cantalamessa will talk at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Pearl City, at 7 p.m. on April 27, 28 and 29. The April 27 talk will be during Mass.
As the preacher for Advent and Lent in the papal household, appointed by Pope John Paul II in 1980, Father Cantalamessa had preached for the pope, cardinals, bishops, prelates of the Roman Curia and general superiors of religious orders.
Father Cantalamessa has doctorates in theology and classical literature. He is a former professor of ancient church history and the director of the department of religious sciences at the Catholic University of Milan. He was also a member of the International Theological Commission from 1975 to 1981.
Ordained in 1958, the priest resigned his teaching position to become a full-time preacher. He is invited frequently to speak at international and ecumenical conferences and has a weekly program on Italian state television.
He has been a member of the Catholic delegation for dialogue with Pentecostal churches and has authored numerous books on the life in Christ and the mysteries of the faith, His most recent book is “Come, Creator Spirit."

Women’s Concerns Committee offers workshop on faith groups
The Diocesan Women’s Concerns Committee is offering a workshop on forming small faith sharing groups in parishes, neighborhoods or wherever women want to gather, in the faculty lounge at St. Theresa School, Honolulu, April 23, 9 a.m. to noon..
The workshop is an extension of the annual women’s gathering during which participants have expressed the desire to have more opportunities to come together in friendship and faith.
At the workshop, Julie Walsh Kroeker will share information and resources from her own training and experiences in forming these groups. She will also lead participants through a small faith-sharing group session.
