Marianist Lay Communities members commit, recommit
By Brother Dennis Schmitz, SM | Special to the Herald
Although the Marianist Brothers and Priests have been in Hawaii more than 125 years, the Marianist Lay Communities (MLC) have grown rapidly the last few years. On Jan. 31, a large number of members renewed their commitments while others made their first commitment during Sunday Eucharist in the Mystical Rose Oratory on the Chaminade/Saint Louis Campus.
Afterward, a potluck brunch at the Hale Malia Marianist Brothers’ Community was enjoyed in their honor
Unlike third orders, the MLC is an independent and equal branch of the Marianist family as are the Marianist Sisters. Members of these small faith communities support each other as they grow together in the Marianist charism of living like Mary by giving Jesus to the world.
In addition to participating in faith-sharing community meetings, they serve the Diocese of Honolulu by sponsoring Marianist Family Retreats, providing faith formation for children and parents alike.
The Marianist Family of Brothers and Priests and Lay Communities hope to continue to serve the people of Hawaii for many years to come.
