Island Treasures celebration to honor 96 outstanding parish volunteers

The Diocese of Honolulu will honor 96 volunteers, both individuals and couples, from parishes throughout Hawaii at the Island Treasures banquet celebration at the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel, April 29. More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the ninth annual event, which is sponsored by Catholic Charities Hawaii.

The volunteers are being honored for their many years of service to their parish communities. They include lectors, eucharistic ministers, ushers, parish committee members, maintenance workers, cooks, fundraisers, catechists, health care workers, choir directors, musicians, groundskeepers and much more. Most have had multiple responsibilities spanning decades of dedication.

Diocesan administrator Father Thomas Gross will present each honoree or honoree couple with a polished calabash inscribed with their names and the name of the event.

Mary Lou Brogan and Rose Domondon have been the co-chairwomen of the event every year since it began.

For more information, call Catherine Pai, special events coordinator for Catholic Charities Hawaii at 537-6321, ext. 303.
