Catholic Charities Hawaii received $4,000 for its General Immigrant Services Program thanks to the 31st Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk. The agency will use the donation to further develop and provide services for those in greatest need.
Catholic Charities Immigrant Services was created in 1980 to provide citizenship assistance, acculturation, English lessons and translation services. The program helps stabilize immigrant families and move them toward self-reliance. The program helped more than 140 people last year.
The Annual Visitor Industry Charity Walk, which takes place on the third Saturday in May, is one of Hawaii’s largest single-day fundraising events. Last year, more than 9,500 walkers from within the visitor industry raised over $1.13 million to help over 190 local charities.
