Corpus Christi to the streets

HCH photo by Anna Weaver

For the third year, Catholics celebrated the Solemnity of Corpus Christi with a Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa followed by an hour-long process from the Kalihi church, up School Street, to Nuuanu Avenue, over the H-1 freeway and Vineyard Boulevard, to Beretania Street and ending at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Peace. This year’s procession on June 14 was somewhat smaller than the last two years. What didn’t change, however, were the sunny, hot conditions, curious onlookers, participants shielding themselves with umbrellas, and the canopy that covered various clergy, including Bishop Larry Silva, as they took turns carrying the Body of Christ through Honolulu’s streets.
