Hawaii Catholics will have donated more than a half-million dollars to Catholic Relief Services for the tsunami relief by the end of the month, according to its agency’s local liaison Carol Ignacio.
The Diocese of Honolulu received $301,609.45 for the relief effort from Hawaii parishes by the end of January, which it is sending to CRS. The diocese also committed an additional $50,000.
In addition to those amounts, CRS reports an additional $139,509.25 mailed directly to its Baltimore office from Hawaii, bringing the total Hawaii Catholic donations so far to $491,118.70.
“Donations continue to flow into our office daily,” said Ignacio. “We will do another tally and check submittal at the end of February. We will go well over the $500,000 mark if we are not there already.”
