Bishop is main speaker at summer’s faith formation conferences

Bishop Larry Silva will be the keynote speaker at this year’s two diocesan Faith Formation Conferences: June 24-27 at Damien Memorial School in Honolulu, and July 6-10 at Immaculate Conception Catechetical Center in Lihue, Kauai.

The theme of the conferences is “Our Hearts Were Burning Within Us,” the title of the U.S. Bishops’ Pastoral Plan for Adult Faith Formation which marks its 10th anniversary this year.

Bishop Silva will talk about the six dimensions of adult faith formation and reaffirm the importance of ongoing conversion of adults.

The conference, sponsored by the diocesan Office of Religious Education, will offer classes to adults in theology, spirituality, Scripture, liturgy and other church-related topics. Conference details and registration information will be announced soon. For more information, visit www.hi-care.org.

St. John Vianney School’s annual luau is today

St. John Vianney School’s third Annual Luau, 5-10 p.m., May 1, on the school campus, promises to be an evening of great food, entertainment and games. The school’s own Halau Ka Pa Hula O Ka Lei Hulu Hiwa will perform along with musical group Hoalohalike. The Country Store will offer crafts, books, baked goods and plants, and a silent auction will feature a variety of theme gift baskets. Luau plates are $20 for those 10 and older. Keiki hotdog plates are $3 and include chips and a drink. Tickets are available in the school office, 940 Keolu Drive in Kailua. For more information, call 261-4651. Proceeds will go toward building improvements.

Scrub Bucket Ministries offering reflection ‘Presence’

Maxine Pollock’s Scrub Bucket Gospel Ministries will present “Presence,” a morning of reflection, Saturday, 8:30 to noon, May 9, at St. Stephen’s Diocesan Center. The event is open to all.
