Catholic sociologist Dr. Katherine Meyer will explore the intersection of sociological development, democratic movements and the Islam religion in a free lecture at Chaminade University’s Mystical Rose Chapel, Feb. 6, 4-5 p.m.
Her talk, “Shared Challenges for Catholics and Muslims in a Globalized World,” is the latest in the Mackey Marianist Lecture series sponsored by Chaminade University of Honolulu, Saint Louis School and The Marianist Center of Hawaii.
Dr. Meyer holds a doctorate in sociology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and has pursued post-doctoral studies at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. As a Catholic, she has worked intensely in the area of lay ministry formation.
The lecture series is named after the late educator, philosopher and theologian Marianist Father Robert Mackey, the founder and first president of Chaminade University. The series features speakers addressing current events through a Catholic viewpoint.
