The Hawaii Island Food Bank, a program of the Office for Social Ministry, reported this month that it collected more than 22 tons of food plus more than $32,000 in its fall food drive.
According to a news release, the agency collected 44,200 pounds of non-perishable food and $32,479.01 from Nov. 16 to Dec. 31. Food is still being brought to the Food Bank in the brown bags distributed in the campaign.
The drive was sponsored by American Savings Bank and all its Big Island branches.
The agency, which serves the Big Island, is distributing 7,000 pounds of food through its East and West Hawaii warehouses. Every dollar donated results in the distribution of $16 worth of food.
