Catholic schools teachers, administrators and staff from throughout the diocese will attend the Annual Conference for Catholic Educators, 7:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Jan. 28, at the Blaisdell Arena.
Marianist Father Allen DeLong will be the homilist at the opening Mass celebrated by diocesan administrator Thomas Gross.
Featured speakers include Sister of Charity of Nazareth Mary Angela Shaughnessy, Christian Brother Robert R. Bimonte, and Dr. Kevin Colleary.
Sister Mary Angela, a professor of education and university legal counsel at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky, will discuss “Catholic Schools and the Law.” Her presentation will focus on practical ways to learn about school law and ways to apply it.
Brother Bimonte’s presentation is titled “Building a Better Brain: Creating the Classroom of the 21st Century.” He is the executive director of the elementary department of the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA). He will discuss how certain factors enhance the learning process, while others inhibit it.
Dr. Colleary, a professor at Fordham University, will speak on “Social Studies and Social Justice in the Catholic School: Can the Gospel inform social studies teaching and learning in the modern world?”
