“Café Night” a sweet success

The Hilo Roman Catholic Community hosted its first “Café Night” on Sunday, Oct. 19. The sweet anticipation of dessert, hot chocolate and coffee attracted more than 30 young adults to the event, according to Chrislyn Villena, St. Joseph Parish in Hilo’s youth and young adult minister.

Adding to the coffee shop atmosphere were candlelit tables and music by Joan Caro and Kelson Pakele. Treats were donated by St. Joseph parishioners, and in turn the young adults contributed $51.05 towards the parish food pantry.

A new young adult leadership team consisting of Kristen Panem, Janelle Del Castillo, Ikaika Pakele, May Sy and Anthony Alonzo have been appointed to plan and arrange future young adult ministry events. They had a chance at the event to get feedback on future activity ideas. Villena says the group plans to have “Café Nights” every other month.
