How cool it that? Academy gets air conditioning

The forecast at Sacred Hearts Academy calls for cooler days ahead. When students return this fall, they will be treated to a refreshing learning experience thanks to the campus-wide installation of a $2.4 million air conditioning system.

The project, expected to be completed Aug. 15, promises increased comfort across the entire campus including classrooms, the chapel and the gym. Urban Works, Inc., a Honolulu-based architecture and urban planning firm, designed and installed the centralized cooling plant with trenching connecting all areas of the campus.

According to Head of School Betty White, “The air-conditioning project has been in the planning stages for five years and will contribute to an enhanced learning environment. This project is but one in a series of projects preparing the Academy campus for the construction of the $8 million dollar Performing Arts Center in the Spring of 2007.”

Harlin Young, chairman of the Sacred Hearts Academy Board said that it was a big decision and one that was considered carefully.

“Our students, teachers, and administrators work so hard, it is our duty to provide a comfortable environment,” he said. “It will move our campus forward as we prepare to celebrate our 100th anniversary in 2009.”
