Maryknoll Sister Katherine Theiler dies at age 87

Maryknoll Sister Katherine Theiler, longtime missioner to Hawaii and founder of the Spiritual Life Center in Honolulu, died on July 24 at St Francis Hospice in Nuuanu. She was 87.

Sister Katherine entered Maryknoll 65 years ago on July 2, 1941. She made her final profession on March 7, 1944.

Her funeral is at 1 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Newman Center/Holy Spirit Parish at the University of Hawaii-Manoa. Jesuit Father Christopher Cartwright will be the celebrant.

Sister Katherine’s ashes will be interred on Monday, Aug. 7, at 10 a.m. at Diamond Head Memorial Cemetery.
