Embracing the rising importance of China and Korea in global influence, Saint Francis School has announced the addition of Chinese and Korean language classes. The Manoa school already teaches fluency-minded classes in American Sign, Spanish, and Japanese.
Saint Francis encourages its students to take three years of the same language to better develop their communication and real world skills. With more options in their curriculum, students can choose a language that best suits their own interests and aspirations.
“China’s influence and future impact on the world economy will significantly affect the way business is conducted for generations to come,” said the principal, Franciscan Sister Joan of Arc Souza.
“The opportunity to learn Chinese language and culture will mean they can be better prepared to embrace future challenges and opportunities in career, business and society,” she said.
The Chinese language program will be offered to students in grades 7-9 starting at the end of July. The Korean language program will be available through the Hawaii Catholic Language Korean School with classes on Saturdays on the Saint Francis campus.
