Carrying their crosses

At the beginning of the annual Mass of the Holy Spirit on Aug. 18, Oahu Catholic school educators carry in crosses decorated by Hawaii Catholic school students as part of a “Vision of Faith” project. The crosses were previously on display at last year’s Annual Conference of Catholic Educators at the Blaisdell Arena. Bishop Larry Silva presided at the 8:30 a.m. Mass held at St. Ann Church in Kaneohe. After the liturgy and a break, educators listened to a talk by Cincinnati Sister of Charity Caroljean Willie on “Catholic Social Teaching: The Church’s Best Kept Secret.” The Mass of the Holy Spirit is designed to give faculty and administrators time to reflect before the start of the new school year.
