Chaminade to host memorial Mass for Father John Bolin

The campus ministry of Chaminade University of Honolulu is planning a memorial Mass for the late Marianist Father John F. Bolin, at 10 a.m., Sunday, Aug. 31 at in the Mystical Rose Oratory on campus. Father Bolin Jr. had been a provincial superior for the Marianist order and had held numerous leadership positions at Chaminade University of Honolulu. Bishop Francis X. DiLorenzo recruited him to be vicar general of the Diocese of Honolulu from 1994 to 2000. Father Bolin died on June 15 in Cupertino, Calif., at age 82. He had been a Marianist for 64 years and a priest for 54 years.

Overnight Blessed Sacrament vigil at Star of the Sea Church

An overnight vigil for the reparation for the desecration of the Blessed Sacrament will be held at Star of the Sea Church from Mass at 9 p.m., Sept. 14, the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, to 5:30 a.m., Sept 15, the Feast of the Sorrowful Mother.

Maryknoll Sisters liturgy to observe 80 years in Hawaii

The Maryknoll Sisters are celebrating 80 years of ministry in Hawaii with a 10:30 a.m. Mass on Sept. 13 at Sacred Heart Church, Punahou, presided over by Bishop Larry Silva. Since arriving in the islands 80 years ago, the sisters have operated schools at Maryknoll (Punahou); St. Ann, Kaneohe; St. Anthony, Wailuku; St. Augustine, Waikiki; St. Anthony, Kalihi; St. Michael, Waialua and St. John, Kalihi. They have staffed social services at Catholic Charities, formerly known as Catholic Social Services, Maui Children’s Home in Puunene, and established the diocese Office of Religious Education.

Scrub Bucket Ministries offering contemplative retreat

Maxine Pollock’s Scrub Bucket Gospel Ministries is offering “The Long and Winding Road,” a weekend contemplative retreat, 7 p.m., Sept. 19 to 2 p.m., Sept. 21, at St. Stephen Diocesan Center. Mass will be celebrated by Father Khanh Hoang. The $139 fee includes a private room and five meals. Space is limited.
