National expert on Catholic education to speak to Hawaii’s Catholic educators

A nationally recognized expert in Catholic education will be the guest speaker following the Mass of the Holy Spirit, the liturgy that traditionally opens the Catholic school year in Hawaii, 8:30 a.m., Aug. 21, at St. Ann Church in Kaneohe.

Vicar general Father Marc Alexander will be the celebrant and homilist at the Mass which gathers all of Hawaii’s Catholic school teachers, administrators and staff.

After Mass, Father Ronald J. Nuzzi, Ph.D., the director of Catholic Leadership Programs in the Alliance for Catholic Education at the University of Notre Dame, will speak on the “Spirituality of Teaching.”

Father Nuzzi is a priest of the Diocese of Youngstown, Ohio. Ordained in 1984, he has also served as a Catholic school teacher and administrator. He has written extensively about multiple intelligence theory in Catholic education, the spirituality of leadership, and inclusion in Catholic schools.

His book, “Gifts of the Spirit: Multiple Intelligences in Religious Education,” published by the National Catholic Educational Association, is in its second printing.

St. Ann’s Model School will offer light refreshments after Father Nuzzi’s talk.
