Cabico to be ordained a deacon May 30 Minimize
Cabico to be ordained a deacon May 30

By Patrick Downes | Hawaii Catholic Herald

Back in Hawaii from theology studies on the Mainland, Jon Cabico said he has a “little bit butterflies” but is otherwise “humbled” at the thought that he will be ordained a deacon on May 30 at his home parish of Our Lady of Good Counsel in Pearl City.

Bishop Larry Silva will ordain Cabico, a candidate for the diocesan priesthood, during the 7 p.m. Mass. Being ordained a deacon is the last major step before priestly ordination, which the seminarian hopes will take place during the summer of next year.

After his diaconate ordination, Cabico, 41, will work at St. Michael Parish in Kona on a pastoral assignment for June and July. Then he will take a couple of week’s vacation before heading back to his final year of studies at Theological College at the Catholic University of America in Washington.

Before entering the seminary, Cabico had earned a biology degree from Pacific University in Oregon and was a Gas Company employee. He is the son oF Thomas Cabico Jr. and Evitha Cabico of Aiea.

The diocese has four other seminarians, David Soares of Hilo, EJ Resinto of Lihue, Jason Nunez of Honolulu and Anthony Rapozo of Kauai.

Soares, Resinto and Nunez are in college at Mount Angel Seminary and Abbey in Saint Benedict, Ore., and Rapozo is studying graduate theology at St. Patrick Seminary in Menlo Park, Calif.
