Capitol recognition for 125 years

Hawaii’s Sisters of St. Francis were honored at the Hawaii state capitol on April 1 with commendations from the state senate and house of representatives in recognition of their 125 years of service in the islands in health care, social services and education. Today, the sisters are formally known as the Sisters of St. Francis of the Neumann Communities. Standing in front of the statue of Father Damien, from left, are Sister William Marie Eleniki, Sister Marie Jose Romano, Sister Norise Kaiser, Sister Jovita Agustin, Sister Agnelle Ching, Sister Joan of Arc Souza, Sister Candida Oroc, Sister Rose Fatima Leite, Sister Alicia Damien Lau, Sister Agatha Perreira, Sister Miriam Dionise Cabacungan, Sister Francis Regis Hadano and Sister Ancilla Yim.
