 Clergy, religious celebrate anniversaries Minimize
Clergy, religious celebrate anniversaries

By Anna Weaver | Hawaii Catholic Herald

Twenty-six Hawaii priests, brothers, sisters and deacons celebrated their 60th, 50th and 25th anniversaries of ordination and profession at the annual Diocesan Jubilee Celebration on March 28.

The well-attended evening Mass at the Co-Cathedral of St. Theresa also included the incardination into the diocese of Father Edgar Brillantes, pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Wahiawa. Father Brillantes originally came to the islands “on loan” from the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia in the northern Philippines.

Bishop Larry Silva praised the jubilarians in his homily for hearing the Lord’s call and being “apart of this wonderful story of Jesus and his love.”

“[Jesus] allows us to do incredible things as he has allowed these brothers and sisters to do incredible things through their ministry,” he said. “We think upon the thousands and thousands of people who have been touched by these brothers and sisters.”

After the homily, those celebrating their anniversaries made a “renewal of commitment” to their ministry and were prayed over by the assembly. After Communion, the jubilarians were called up individually and presented by Bishop Silva with an etched glass memento.

Leis, balloons, photos and a reception followed in the church hall.
