Sharon Chiarucci guest speaker at Catholic Women’s Guild meeting

The Catholic Women’s Guild will hold its general membership meeting on Saturday, Sept. 16, at St. Pius X Church in Manoa, beginning with Mass at 11 a.m. followed by a short business meeting and refreshments.

Sharon Chiarucci, the director of the diocesan office for Welcoming Parish is the guest speaker. Her topic is the book “Left to Tell,” by Immaculee Libagiza, the true story of her remarkable survival during the Rwandan genocide of 1994, and the author’s planned visit to Hawaii in February.

‘Come follow me’ theme for the Oahu Young Adult Congress

“Come follow me” is the theme for the Oahu Young Adult Congress, Sept. 30, 8:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m., at the Kaneohe Marine Corp Air Base Chapel.

The congress, for those 18-35, will be an opportunity for young adults to get to know each other, share ministries, and discuss issues and concerns.

Featured speakers include Rev. Terry Hershey, vicar general Father Marc Alexander, vicar for clergy Father Gary Secor, Randy and Maile Domingo, and Sacred Hearts Academy teacher William Plourde.

The event will also offer Mass celebrated by Bishop Larry Silva and a praise and worship concert.

Theologian Father David Power to speak at Chaminade

Well known author and theologian Father David Power of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate will speak at Chaminade University of Honolulu’s Mystical Rose Oratory, 4 p.m., on Oct. 15.

His topic is “Eucharist and the Church’s Prophetic Mission.”

Father Power’s presentation is part of the university’s Mackey series, in memory of the late Marianist Father Robert Mackey, one of Chaminade’s founders.

Father Power is professor emeritus of the School of Theology and Religious Studies at Catholic University of America. He has also taught at the Gregorian University in Rome and as a visiting professor in Tahiti and South Africa.

His specialization is sacramental and liturgical theology, systematic theology and hermeneutical theology.

Father Power’s work has earned him numerous awards. He has written 10 books, published more than 50 articles, and has contributed to 50 other books.
