Art and jazz to raise funds for new St. Francis Hospice-east Minimize
Art and jazz to raise funds for new St. Francis Hospice-east

“We’re totally jazzed about this event,” said local singer Jan Brenner.

Good choice of words. The event is “Art … And All That Jazz,” an upbeat cabaret-style banquet plus revue at the Hawaii Convention Center, Oct. 6, benefiting St. Francis Hospice.

“Supporters of St. Francis Healthcare System will be in for a real treat,” said Hawaii entertainment veteran Brenner who is coordinating the entertainment with Dita Holifield.

“We’re pulling out all the stops.”

By that she means Theresa Bright and her jazz trio on pre-dinner entertainment, a dramatic presentation by Marlene Sai, then a show by Brenner, Holifield, Ginai, Anita Hall, Rocky Brown, and Derek Daniels the “Jazz Master” backed by the Honolulu Jazz Quartet.

Ten “All That Jazz” dancers will open the festivities. Also performing will be the high-energy dance and show band eight0eight.

The evening opens with a silent auction of artwork at 5 p.m. Media personalities Emme Tomimbang and Billy Van Osdol will emcee. Dinner is at 7.

The event hopes to raise awareness and $200,000 for a proposed hospice center in East Oahu.

The show will also pay tribute to the vision and innovation of the Sisters of St. Francis who introduced hospice to Hawaii in 1978 and currently operates two facilities.

Sponsorship for the 10-seat tables ranges from $2,000 to $10,000. For more information, call Pearl Simonson, St. Francis Healthcare Foundation, at 547-6877.
