Young Ladies Institute to present seminary burse
 
The Young Ladies Institute, District 22, will celebrate its annual joint Lenten Mass, 8:30 a.m., Feb. 24, at St. Anthony Church in Kailua. Pastor Father Dennis Koshko and director of vocations Father Peter Dumag will preside.

At brunch afterward at the Kaneohe Marine Base Officers Club, the institute will present the Golden Jubilee Seminary Burse check to Father Dumag for Bishop Larry Silva. The money raised annually by members of the Kailua Institute No. 213 and Ana Malia Institute No. 208 goes toward the education of Hawaii’s seminarians.

Kailua Institute celebrated its 53rd anniversary on Feb. 3 with a Mass at St. Anthony Church followed by lunch at Luana Hills Restaurant in Kailua.

Charter members Evelyn Cabral, Lorraine Ferry, Betty Pedro, June Lum, Mabel Pao, Margaret Capella, Stella Lopez, Irene Rubin, Beatrice Kalai and Gladys Ornellas were recognized for their commitment and work.

A young boy joins mariachis in an annual procession in Los Angeles Nov. 26 in honor of St. Cecilia, the patron saint of music. The musicians attended an open-air Mass and on Dec. 7 they are scheduled to sing at an Los Angeles archdiocesan Mass honoring Our Lady of Guadalupe.
